Casablanca SS25: A Love Letter to LA’s Contradictions

For Spring/Summer 2025, Casablanca’s creative director Charaf Tajer took us on an unexpected journey through the streets of Los Angeles—a city often defined by its glitz and glam but here stripped down to its underground countercultures. The collection is an ode to a paradoxical Los Angeles, exploring its darkness, contradictions, and untold beauty.

The runway, set against a backdrop of bright, candy-colored Lowrider cars, set the stage for a collection that wove together the cultural tapestry of the city. Models strutted down the runway, embodying both the confidence of Mexican-American lowrider culture and the laid-back cool of the SoCal surf scene. Wide-shouldered blazers, oversized shirts, and effortlessly casual denim looks danced alongside metallic evening wear, as if to remind us that LA is a place where opposites coexist in a harmonious clash.

The influence of Pat Riley’s slick, tailored aesthetic met the playful psychedelic patterns of Bootsy Collins in vibrant hues that jumped off the fabric—echoing LA’s kaleidoscopic nature. The ombré effects and airbrushed motifs on jackets, tees, and accessories mirrored the intricate artistry found on the Lowriders themselves, while a sense of hand-crafted artisanship permeated the collection through crochet, knits, and embroidery.

Casablanca’s SS25 collection isn’t just fashion—it’s a social narrative, a re-examination of LA’s identity, where freedom of dress and spirit reign supreme. Tajer’s pieces demand attention, like the city of LA itself—bold, colorful, and brimming with life.
