Richard Gere Bids Farewell to America: A New Chapter in Spain with Alejandra Silva

Richard Gere is saying goodbye to the United States.

Richard Gere, the iconic Pretty Woman actor, is embarking on a new adventure at 75, relocating to Madrid with his wife, Alejandra Silva, 41, and their two children. The heartfelt announcement came during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where Gere shared the reasoning behind their transatlantic move.

“My wife is Spanish, and she gave me about seven years here [in the U.S.], so now it’s time to spend some years in Madrid,” he explained warmly. With their kids already bilingual, the move promises to nurture their cultural roots and linguistic skills.

Alejandra Silva, a philanthropist, grew up surrounded by a large Spanish family, anchored by her grandmother’s central role. After her grandmother’s passing, Gere observed Silva taking on the mantle as the new cornerstone of family gatherings. “She’s already planning Sunday lunches for 35 people,” Gere said, joking about the lively Spanish traditions they’ll embrace.

The family’s Thanksgiving celebration this year will take place in their new Madrid home, marking the beginning of their European chapter. For Gere, this move is a heartfelt tribute to his wife’s heritage and a commitment to creating cherished memories for their children in a setting rich with family and culture.

As he says goodbye to America, Richard Gere’s next act promises love, laughter, and long Sunday lunches in the heart of Spain. “Madrid feels like the right place to write this next chapter,” he shared. And for a man who has charmed audiences for decades, it seems this chapter will be nothing short of a masterpiece.
