Viktor&Rolf Haute Couture FW25: Angry Birds Take Flight

A Feathered Fantasy with a Shadowy Twin

What happens when high fashion plays with duality? At Paris Couture Week, Viktor&Rolf @viktorandrolf gave us an answer—twice, in fact. Their Fall-Winter 2025/26 show, boldly titled “Angry Birds,” was less about the video game and more about couture rebellion, theatrical elegance, and playful contradictions.

Double the Drama

Imagine this: fifteen sets of twin looks—thirty outfits total. Each pair featured the exact same black silhouette, but with a dramatic twist. One look was completely over-the-top, puffed up with vibrant fabric feathers and towering hats by the legendary milliner Stephen Jones. The other? Stripped down, featherless, and quietly fluid.

Same cut, same design—yet completely different in feel. One loud and unapologetic, the other subtle and introspective. Together, they told a visual story about presence and absence. The power of contrast. And maybe even the dual sides we all carry inside—our inner showstopper and our softer shadow.

Feathers Without the Fuss

Let’s clear one thing up: all the “feathers” in this collection were cruelty-free and made entirely from fabric. And that’s not a small detail. Each of the 11,500 feathers used was hand-crafted, turning each garment into a walking work of trompe-l’œil couture art.

Viktor&Rolf transformed feathers from mere embellishment into architecture—building entire silhouettes out of texture and air. It’s exactly what the Parisian feather artisan Lemarié once said: “My feathers are not beautiful. It is the air between them that makes them beautiful.” That’s the kind of poetry this collection was made of.

A Glimpse into the Brand

Viktor&Rolf have always danced on the edge of surrealism and satire. From their upside-down gowns to slogan-filled couture, their work is as much performance as it is fashion. With “Angry Birds,” they revisit themes from their 1998–99 couture debut—showing looks both with and without volume. Then and now, they blur the line between costume and couture, between joke and genius.

The Shoes, the Hats, the Statement

Each look was finished with custom satin heels by Christian Louboutin, adding a glossy punctuation mark to each pair. And those sculptural hats? Absolutely show-stealing. But beyond the drama, there was a quiet power in the featherless counterparts—a reminder that softness can be just as strong.
