SHIATZY CHEN AW25/26: Far and Near, Then and Now

SHIATZY CHEN Autumn-Winter 2025/2026: When Miao Embroidery Meets Paris Elegance

Ever wonder what happens when threads take the place of pens and fashion turns into a tapestry of heritage? SHIATZY CHEN @shiatzychen gave us the answer at their Autumn-Winter 2025/2026 show at Paris Fashion Week @parisfashionweek. Think delicate needlework inspired by the “Ten Types of Miao Embroidery” from Guizhou, China, all wrapped up in high-end tailoring that glitters with modern flair. It felt like watching history dance down the runway—except with swirling pleated skirts, bright colors, and a subtle modern edge.

Meet the Brand: SHIATZY CHEN & the Designer’s Vision

Founded in Taiwan, SHIATZY CHEN is often praised as a label that seamlessly merges Eastern aesthetics with Western structure. From day one, the brand has championed exquisite embroidery and innovative craftsmanship, turning classic Chinese elements into modern silhouettes.

Under the keen direction of its designer, SHIATZY CHEN’s collections always exude a kind of refined romance—blending ancient artisan techniques with contemporary luxury. Over the years, the fashion house has become a must-see at Paris Fashion Week, where it consistently showcases a rich cultural tapestry alongside a cutting-edge perspective on style.

The Runway Show & Collection

This season’s AW25/26 collection, titled “Far and Near,” spotlights the art of Miao embroidery, weaving a story of migration, identity, and celebration. Let’s dig in:

Miao Motifs & Color Play

Inspired by the ten unique Miao embroidery techniques, each detail on the runway told a vivid tale of cultural exchange. From tin embroidery to coiling stitch, the artistry took center stage, especially on:

  • Handbags: Ten limited-edition bags, each dedicated to a specific Miao embroidery method.
  • Textiles: Plush wools, structured leather pleats, and swirling patterns that mimic the Miao’s pleated floral skirts.

The color palette is as varied as it is symbolic: White, Floral, Black, Red, and Blue set the foundation, with extra touches of platinum, pink, black-gold, crimson-black, and cerulean adding depth. If you thought embroidered clothes were stuck in a “grandma” vibe, these neon pops and subtle metallic shines prove otherwise.

Shapes and Silhouettes

SHIATZY CHEN isn’t afraid to play with proportion. Long, sweeping coats and capes gave a regal vibe, while short pleatsmen’s pants with pleated hems, and fluffy folds showed off a more playful side. The brand references the grandeur of “migration,” layering beads, feathers, tassels, and bells—like the mythical Hundred-Bird Garment—to make each step a mini spectacle.

Accessories and Collabs

No piece was left behind in this cultural exploration:

  • Miao Silver Talismans: Think detachable stud brooches shaped like suns, dragons, and butterfly wings. They can be attached to chains, belts, or wherever else your style heart desires.
  • Boots and Boot Covers: A wink to the Miao legwear tradition, but given a high-fashion spin—heroic yet oddly cozy.
  • Handbags Galore: Beyond the ten embroidered collector’s items, we saw soft Hobo bags and multi-functional crossbody styles perfect for real life (you know, in case you actually need to carry more than a lipstick).

My Personal Take

The phrase “threads as ink” kept bouncing around my head while I watched SHIATZY CHEN’s runway. It’s refreshing to see how a centuries-old craft like Miao embroidery can come alive in Paris with this modern, almost whimsical spin. The swirl of pleated hems and the bright bursts of color had me dreaming about a wardrobe that embraces cultural depth without feeling the least bit dusty.

In short, it was a trip—both figuratively and literally, as if we’d all traveled through time and across continents in the span of a few looks. Who knew tassels and bells could work so elegantly on a minimalist black-gold coat? SHIATZY CHEN proved they do, and now I’m convinced we all need at least one embroidered statement piece in our closets.

Full show you can watch here:

Influenced by ancient Chinese culture and modern Western techniques, Shiatzy Chen is considered the foremost luxury Chinese designer, and the brand continues to expand throughout the world. This handsomely illustrated volume captures the essence of the exclusive label from the intricate and unique designs and embroidery to the exquisite tailoring and craftsmanship and beautifully presents the history of this avant-garde fashion icon.

Threads become ink, weaving stories across the runway.
