Johnny Depp Reflects on Moving Forward After Amber Heard Trial: ‘Why Carry That Baggage?'”

Johnny Depp is reflecting on the tumultuous chapter of his life marked by his legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard. While promoting his new directorial project Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness at the Rome Film Festival, the 61-year-old actor addressed his recent remarks about his life becoming a “soap opera” during the 2022 defamation trial.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Depp opened up about the whirlwind of media scrutiny and public opinion surrounding the case. “Honestly, I can sit here this very second and think about all the hit pieces, and how everybody was against me,” he said, describing the experience as a mix of difficult, absurd, and even humorous moments. Despite the challenges, he noted, “Some of it was not the most beautiful time, some of it was hilarious. Some of it was mad.”

Depp’s career slowed significantly during the six years leading up to the trial, but the lawsuit concluded with a $1 million settlement paid to him by Heard, who now resides in Madrid, Spain, with her young daughter. Reflecting on the aftermath, Depp shared a perspective of acceptance rather than bitterness. “The thing is, it simply just was, and it simply just is. So, for me, it happened. I learned, man,” he said. “I don’t have any ill feelings toward anyone. I don’t have this great reserve of hatred, because hatred requires caring. Why carry that baggage?”

His words reveal a choice to move forward without harboring negativity, focusing instead on the growth that comes from life’s trials. With a sense of resilience, Depp seems ready to embrace new chapters both on-screen and off, leaving the drama of the past behind.
