Kim Jones Exits Fendi to Focus on Dior Menswear Role

In a significant shift in the fashion world, British designer Kim Jones has announced his departure from Fendi, where he has served as the artistic director of womenswear and couture since 2020. This move allows Jones to fully concentrate on his responsibilities at Dior, the luxury label owned by LVMH, where he will continue to lead the brand’s menswear division.

Jones, who took on the Fendi role in the aftermath of Karl Lagerfeld’s legendary 50-year tenure, helped usher in a new era for the Roman fashion house after the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic and Lagerfeld’s passing in 2019. His exit marks the end of a brief but impactful chapter at Fendi, with a new creative direction for the brand expected to be announced soon.

Jones’ dual role at Fendi and Dior reflected the increasing demand for top-tier designers to juggle multiple positions within the fashion conglomerates. However, as the industry adjusts to slowing sales and reshuffles its creative teams, Jones’ decision to focus exclusively on Dior highlights the intense pressure and expectations placed on high-profile designers.

The shake-up follows other recent designer exits within LVMH. Last week, Hedi Slimane announced his departure from Celine, replaced by Michael Rider. In September, Sarah Burton was named the new creative director at Givenchy.

Jones’ exit has quelled speculation about potential changes at Dior’s womenswear division. However, industry insiders will closely monitor LVMH’s next steps, especially with rumors swirling about Jonathan Anderson of Loewe being considered for a top role at Dior.
